pink cosmos studio buttons
October 11th, 2008 in sewing, fashion, knitting, embroidery, gallerystudio buttons: one of a kind handmade buttons. Hand embroidered on cotton fabric using cotton embroidery floss
pink cosmos. I have made four in all. There are two with fuchsia flowers and two with pink flowers. These buttons are hand embroidered with delightful bouquets of pink cosmos.
I use a technique that I call free-hand embroidery. Numerous French knots as well as other stitches are applied to simple cotton fabric using cotton floss. I then covered a metal button with the embroidered fabric. Each mini, impressionistic “painting” takes more than an hour to create.
Each button is mounted on a card made from a wallpaper sample, faux suede, and silk fabric. It’s nice enough to frame, but you can use the button on your favorite garment as well. They are completely machine washable.
These unique buttons would look great as a set on a cardigan or individually as the closure to a top or swing jacket.

This is quite STUNNING!!! And so very exciting that it is from stuff you have aquired. Growing up, my grandmother always made stuff with us. And to us this was 'home made'. We lived it and loved it. We then emmigrated to Canada and I was so confused when I walked into a craft shop. I couldn't understand why you bought stuff to make home made stuff!! Didn't make sence at all!! What you are doing is just fantastic. I just love it, well done. So many times I've had a birthday sprung on me, by our three girls being asked to birthday parties, and have had to jump around and go through all my stuff and make a plan. We live in the bush and not near shops, I can't just run into town. I've even had to make our own birthday cards with my home made paper!! Lots of fun!! I think I'm going to attempt one of your beautiful buttons. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers, Ad
