Have you tried plastic wrap as a topper stabilizer on towels?

I went for a long awaited lesson for my machine embroidery purchase.  While there I picked up some tricks from the instructor that I had not seen in books or online.  One such trick was to use regular saran wrap (I suppose any plastic wrap would do)  rather than water soluble stabilizer on top when embroidering flannel or terry cloth.  She likes that the plastic peels away easily and stays  on the towel so the stitches will always look nice.

Have you tried this?  I would love to hear from you if you have or any other "unique" tips you have.
