This rotating mat is like two mats held together with a disc that lets you turn the cutting surface as you go.

I'm cutting out a lot of diamond shapes today and I just had to blog about how much I love my new lazy susan(rotating) cutting mat. Mine is from Olfa, but there are probably other manufacturers as well. It's 12 inches square. I believe they come larger as well, but I wouldn't want one too large -- just big enough to accommodate the shapes I'm cutting. The mat rotates, which means I don't need to pick up my work when I'm ready to cut the next edge. Genious! I've always felt that tools can get out of hand and it's best to stick with the truly useful ones. Well, this one is definitely a keeper. It's not a small investment -- around $50 -- but if you cut a lot of patches, it's worth it.

4dogs3cats writes: I also bought this rotating mat...I found it at Hancock Fabrics, and I used one of the 40% coupons from the sales paper...so it was 40% off of about $39.00.........well worth it!

indigobabs writes: I almost bought this very one at Target today. It was under $30, but I went with a new iron instead. I stumbled across them when I was in iron/laundry aisle looking for a ironing board cover. The cutting mats are above the sewing machines.
