Earthy Delights Windcatcher
March 29th, 2009 in other crafts, restyle, gifts, home decorating, galleryHandmade from 2 upcycled silvery-gray plastic Smiling Sunshine Finials, a couple of vintage necklaces, and some glass beads I've had laying around.
From the vintage necklaces, I used faux pearls to represent clouds and air, and assorted brown wooden beads(earth), silver (water and clouds) and acrylic beads in various shades of red, orange, blue, green, yellow, and teal that represent Fire, Earth, Wind and Air.
The chimes are actual pieces that I've saved over the years from broken or worn-out windchimes that I've had. (I don't throw much out.)
Strung with 12 pound nylon fishing line that my husband had in his tackle box. (He hasn't been fishing in years!) All knots are doubled and secured with super glue.
Hangs from a Vintage Chain that dear hubby cut and bent for me. I soaked this chain in jewelry cleaner to get the gunk off. It darkened a bit, too, and now has a beautiful patina!!
I think the nature of this piece fits all the categories for this contest. And I love the fact that I didn't buy a thing to make it!
