Tab Curtain-tastic!
April 22nd, 2009 in other crafts, restyle, crochet, galleryI made this out of about 40 plastic bags that were lying around my house, 560 soda tabs, some rocks right outside of my apartment door and a belt I got at goodwill, but wouldn't fit me. All in all, this piece cost me nothing, but it did cost the recycling plant some soda tabs!
When I started this project I thought this chain I had full of soda tabs I collected back in the day (I always new they would come in handy! :D ) would be enough, but it wasn't. So! The nice people at the local recycling drop-off let me pull off the tabs from some cans they had ready to be crushed and transported elsewhere.
It became even more awesome when this guy who was there told me he had a TON of soda tabs he and his wife wanted to get rid of. I took those off of his hadnds as well. A good thing too, because even the tabs I got from the recycling people weren't enough. I'lve got to work on my math.. >.>
The rocks from in front of my apartment were for the weights at the bottom. When I first made the strands I didn't think they would need anything on the bottom, but was set straight as the plastic decided it preferred to curl over hanging straight down. I actually made little pouches with the scraps from making the plastic-bag-yarn and tied them on the bottom then wove in the edges. I'm sure my landlord won't notice a mere 28 rocks missing from the landscape, heheh.
Happy Earth Day!
