This is one of the coolest costumes I have ever made!  I decided that I really needed to be The Penguin for Halloween!  No matter how much I begged, I couldn't get my hubby to be one of my "henchmen".  Alas...

I used a different pattern for each piece (one for the vest, one for the tail coat and one for the pants).  Of course, I being a beginning sewer, didn't know that each pattern was SUPER HARD!  One of my awesome costuming friends forwarned me.  Needless to say I didn't follow that patterns exactly after a while and ended up with the coolest halloween costume ever!

The Vest is white with a pinkish crepe back satin.  I did snaps instead of buttons (b/c of my lack of button hole making knowledge).  The Tail Coat is Blue satinish material that I bought at walmart for $5/yd that I thought was black (Damn flouresent lights!) and the lining is white sparkly Satin.  When I walked you could see the white peaking out and it looked really cool.   The Pants are made from the same blue material and I added a blue ribbon down the side.  For the cravat, I made it and tied it, then sewed a cool "ice" looking button as the "tie tack" and cut the back off, cleaned it up and added a large hook and bar so I could take it on and off and it would always look awesome!

I got a large top hat from a costume shop and added a band of the pinkish satin from my vest.  Lastly, the finishing touches (wax nose, gloves, spectacle, cigarette and holder, and spats) I got from www.theatrehouse.com.  The umbrella was mine and the shoes were a find at the local Thrift Store!  They are pretty pimp!

My costume is going to have a mid calf length skirt for work appropriateness, then a super short one, for late night fun!
I wish I had an excuse to wear the penguin costume again...it was pretty pimp.
