This sparkly, colorful pendant is so much fun to wear with a tank top or sundress!
Heres everything I used to whip up my pendant and earrings set.
The pendant and earrings use the same elements (glittering rhinestones, colorful skulls, and red painted background) with slightly different details (like their varying sizes, different accent charms, and color highlights).

This fun, sparkly set of painted and embellished pendant and earrings was inspired by my super-talented friend Kathy Cano-Murillo, the Crafty Chica herself! I started with plain wood discs from the craft store and added elements from her new line of crafty delights, but you can fancy yours up with any visual imagery and details you like.

Here's everything you'll need to make a set of earrings and a pendant.

What you'll need:

  • Three wooden discs (I used one 1.5-inch circle and two 1-inch circles)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Jewelry adhesive
  • Pendant bail
  • Jump rings or soldered rings
  • Three paper images of your choice, the same size or smaller than your discs (I used an Inspiration Card from the Crafty Chica line)
  • Sharp scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Clear gloss varnish
  • Three charms of your choice
  • Rhinestones or other flat-backed embellishments
  • Pliers
  • Earring wires
  • Chain with clasp

1. On a protected work surface, apply one coat of paint to the front and sides of each wooden disc. Let it dry completely. Flip it over and add a coat of paint to the back, too, letting it dry completely. Repeat this once more for a total of two coats on each surface.

2. Use small dabs of jewelry adhesive to attach the pendant bail to the center top on the back of the large disc, as shown, and a soldered or jump ring to the bottom center. Similarly, attach jump or soldered rings to the top and bottom centers on the back of each smaller disc. Let the glue dry completely.

Attach the pendant bail and the soldered or jump rings at the top and bottom of each disc, as described in step 2.

3. Next, choose your imagery. I decided on sugar skulls from a Crafty Chica inspiration card, and cut them out with sharp scissors. Attach the imagery of your choice to the front of each disc with craft glue, pressing it down evenly, and let it dry completely.

Glue your imagery to the front of each disc.

4. After the images have set, apply a coat of gloss varnish over the surface of each disc. Let it dry completely and repeat to add a second coat afterwards. If desired, add a coat of varnish to the back of the discs as well.

5. When the varnish is dry, choose the embellishments and charms you’ll decorate your pieces with. I chose amber rhinestones to accentuate the eyes on the skulls, and a vintage star charm for my pendant, as well as Crafty Chica charms for my earrings.

Choose your embellishments for the pendant and earrings.

6. Use craft glue to add rhinestones or other flat-backed decorations, and use pliers to join the charms to the ring at the bottom of each disc, so they swing freely and face forward.

7. Once the rhinestone glue has dried, add earring wires to the top rings on the earring discs, and slip the chain through the pendant bail so it hangs freely. Your decoupaged set of jewelry is ready to wear!

Embellish your set with sparkles or other flat-backed embellishments right on the discs and add charms below for extra shine.

Variation: You might also like making an embellished collage shrine in the same style—I used one of Kathy's inspiration cards as the central design of my Day of the Dead art piece last year!

This small embellished shrine goes on my Day of the Dead altar.
