I entered the Sew Stylish Spring Fashion Challenge for 2009.  The editors of this fine publication selected me as a finalist. I’m still pinching myself because I haven’t entered a sewing contest since high school.

As promised to all of the admirers that e-mailed me. Here is the video describing step by step how I embellished my fabric. The fabric was embellished using the ancient Japanese art of Origami. Where did I get the inspiration? In May I saw Francisco Costa interviewed on the Martha Stewart Show. He demonstrated a process for how he designed his ‘Origami’ Dress for the runway.

Well I designed my dress to follow the contest’s rules using Sew Stylish, Simplicity Pattern 2657. If it were not for this pattern I would not have had a canvas as a home sewer to attempt Mr. Costa’s technique. It’s is NOT like I have his professional equipment or talented staff.  But I do have ME, and this is how I accomplished attempting his technique and modified the technique to qualify for the contest. I hope that your garment turns out as easily as mine did.

This video is part one. I demonstrate how the right front skirt panel of the dress is folded. The same process is used for all remaining panels.

For those not sure what a vlog is, it's ok. A vlog is a video blog - a video on line journal so you watch instead of reading text and looking a pictures. Vlogs are great for 'how-to' because they 'show' the process.
