Fall Fashion Challenge Entry - TatusWelle1
September 22nd, 2009 in sewing, fashion, galleryThis is my entry for the Fall Fashion Challenge! Yaayy!!! I have only been sewing for about 10 months and this is my VERY FIRST challenge / contest entry ever! : )
My inspiration was a dress from the Giambattista Valli Fall 2009 collection (pic#43) seen here on;
http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/fashion-shows/ready-to-wear/giambattista-valli-fall09-rtw
I didn't want mine to look too similar to the designer's. I loved the concept of Vallis dress with the side swept top and the long elegant skirt.
I made my dress from African Wax Print Fabric which is a fabric worn by the people of West Africa. I did not use a pattern for the dress but just drew it out and started cutting. The fabric is turned horizontally to create the border at the bottom. I cut strips of the black & yellow "stripes" from the fabric and sew them together to make the top of the dress. It is an empire waist gathered slightly with elastic, one shoulder gathered to one side.
It is shown worn with a belt made from the same fabric & tied at the back. The last photo is of the actual Valli dress that inspired my dress.
I totally enjoyed making this dress and I love the way it turned out.
Thanks for looking!!!
