Careful with the magnet idea. They can be fatal if little ones swallow them. So only use them in items too big to swallow, and make sure a clever child cannot remove them to put them in his or her mouth.
Adorable cake! I made felt fruit for my granddaughter this month. I think she'll be getting a cake in the future!
